As for spammers its only a suggestion so I thought i would share. We use the following ones bellow and it cuts out 99% of them and saves a whole bunch of time on the moderation side of the forum due to spammers.
Cloudflare = we use as its free service
Stopforumspam = we use as its free service
Akismet = we use as its free service
Honeypot = we use as its free service
Things to do in the back-end
Security Question for Example [what is the name of this site] Usually spammers get caught here
reCAPTCHA = easy on humans harder on spammers
Hopefully this can help all you hard working moderators!

my feeling about spammers is well known...
they break any # of forum rules: misdirection(recruitment), intent, live link rules..the list goes on and on..
