Yes, it is Linux based. But remember there Is a Linux verson of kodi.

we don't deal in the theoretical here and most of our members aren't fluent in Linux. The mag was not initially designed to run kodi being an iptv box with proprietary middleware.

Lunix is based on commands it would be very hard to install that software unless you know what your doing with out bricking the box, I would suggest leave it alone unless you want a door stop.
