NASCAR 2020 Playoff Contest

At the start of the season, I mentioned that there will be a special contest that will add points to the overall score. So this is how it will work.

1. After the August Daytona Race (Race 26), the Playoff Seedings will be set. As of the end of the Daytona road course race here are the standings.

2. Once the seedings are set, the contest entrys will be open. Here is how it will work. Pool members will get a chance to select who will win the overall Cup champion based on the standings. However, once the pick is made, no one else can pick the driver from the list. So first come, first served. If you take another driver later, your old pick will be available to pick. The selection period will end with Green Flag at Race 27.

3. If your driver wins the championship, you will get the number of points by this example schedule:

So say the #1 driver wins.. the person picking that driver will get 50 points added to the season total. If a longshot wins, say #16, that will get 400 points added to the season total. This would allow those at the bottom of the standings to catch up to the leaders with a hail mary pick.

Harvick has his work cut out ... He can slide for this first round, but next round he needs to work and some tracks that Harvick has not won on in awhile are coming in second round... we will see how good Harvick can be during the second round :)

Chase Elliott won the Busch Pole Award for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs opener at Darlington Raceway (6 p.m. ET on NBCSN/NBC Sports App, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). The Cook Out Southern 500 is a crown-jewel event and will highlight throwback weekend.

The lineup was determined using NASCAR’s new competition-based formula, which is a total number based on the previous event: 15% of a fastest lap time position, 25% of the driver’s final race finish position, 25% of the owner’s final race position and 35% of the Owner Points position. Any ties will be broken by the Rule Book.

The way the playoffs can work is the hottest driver can take it, but outside Harvick and Hamlin, they have to win. Even though he doesn't have that many wins he was closest the most (other than Harvick and Hamlin), if that makes sense!
