I got bored one night and decided to play around with my tvonline4. So i decided to root and install google playstore on it, and im pretty happy that i have succeeded. So im going to share how i accomplished this.

First thing we need to do is make a backup of our box just in case something gets screwed.
you will need the following:

a mouse
toothpick
empty USB stick or sd card (i used a usb stick) (4gb should be good enough)
TWRP recovery image, download link below

How to backup:

Place the recovery.img in the root of the usb or sd card.
With the avov powered off insert the usb on the side, and push the toothpick in the recovery hole underneath the avov until you feel it click, hold it down and turn the power on. wait about 15 secs and you can let go.
Now you will see the the TWRP screen prompt "Keep System Read Only?". Swipe to the right to allow modification.
Now choose backup, just check everything so its a complete backup.
Select Storage, choose USB-OTG, Swipe to backup.
Now you should have a complete backup of your system.
To go back to the main screen, just click on the TWRP logo on top left corner
You have a choice now if you want to flash twrp into the recovery or not. If you do, click on install, choose recovery.img then choose recovery partition.
Reboot. It will ask you if you want to install supersu, just say no.

How to install flashable zips using TWRP (supersu, gappsloli)

place zip files on usb stick (same stick as twrp)
Boot to recovery using toothpick trick
Install -> select zip file -> click on add zip, if you want to install more than one zip -> swipe to flash
Reboot System.
If you installed supersu, just run it once and choose new user.

Download links:

twrp + gapps - https://www.mediafire.com/?a49k257d2p8b9h9
supersu - https://www.mediafire.com/?xjq3mir0fq83lcu

extract tvonline4.zip to the usb stick. recovery.img should be in the root of the directory.
You may find that a lot of apps are incompatible with our box on the google playstore, to get around this install market helper (google it).

UPDATE:
If you can't get into recovery via the toothpick method, try this:

place the following files in the root of the usb stick

recovery.img - https://www.mediafire.com/?ctkebltf39r254b
gapps- https://www.mediafire.com/?7nno6kddpwywqqo
supersu - https://www.mediafire.com/?xjq3mir0fq83lcu

then go to UPDATE&BACKUP. Under local update select the zip file then update (you can do only one at a time)
i suggest start with supersu, then gapps.

I can't get it to boot to recovery. What firmware version are you showing on the box? (Mine is 1.10)

i believe i have the latest fw, i have to check when i get home. What are you using? USB stick or SD card? If you are using a USB stick use the usb port on the side, not the back.

Tried both ports. I'll try a sd card later.

could you get into the normal recovery? no usb or sdcard inserted, hold the recovery button when powering up.

I did try that, but it didn't do anything. I may try a factory reset, but that probably wouldn't help. Locked bootloader?

i'll try and see if i can make a flashable zip for the recovery.

why is it when i reply, the space bar doesnt register, its only when i preview post then it works.

No joy for me, even with the updated method (update&backup). The box does flash that led next to the TVonline4, but refuses to go into recovery. I might just have a corrupted box, at least for the recovery. I even tried a factory reset.

Thanks for the help romstah. I hope it does work for someone else.

Before you root, backup your whole system using TWRP, just in case it doesnt update OTA.
I do have the untouched backup just in case anyone needs it.

For anyone attempting this, the flash drive should be formatted FAT32. After I formatted the drive I was able to complete the steps

Please post. I tried to OTA update and when that didn't work tried to factory. Seems to be stuck in this loop of asking me to setup wifi on a blue screen wtih yellow text. If you do have a zip'd TWRP untouched backup, that would be phenomenal, I did take a backup at some point lost the USB stick :(

Thanks in advance.
