Ranger Smith may not be able to help much to keep them Black Bears at bay, which number about 600 thousand thru out Canada , USA and Mexico.
Black Bears are the only Bear species that is increasing in population (I think is what I read). Mainly because they are so highly adaptable. Even the way the are built compared to a Grizzly or Polar Bear, help the Black Bear to survive.

British Columbia Canada alone, carries the largest Black Bear population in the world.. with an estimated population of 150 to 200 thousand Black Bears.
The whole of BC Province is considered "Bear County"

In southern Ontario, the number of Black Bears seen in the last few years has been increasing. Not due to increased population, but is only a widening of their habitat in that general region, as stated by some scientist guys.
