    Internet Use

    Hey everybody,

    So last night a ran some tests on the iptv server, using stalker client, and simple iptv.
    I'm impressed it with it, it works great, good quality.

    I do have a question tho.

    So with the tests i ran last night, It uses about 200mb of data per hour.
    So saying i average between my whole family, 8 hours of TV a day. That brings me to 1,600 MB.
    Over a 30 day month, That would equal 48 Gigs of internet usage.

    Now right now my internet plan comes with 100 GIGs. The next package up is 300 GIGs for around 10 dollars extra a month.
    The plan after that is Unlimited, but it costs a good deal more money.

    With the tests ive done, technically i would be okay with the 100 gigs i have now. But to be safe I will upgrade to the 300 gig package.

    I know all over the forum people are saying you NEED unlimited internet plans for the service.
    But do you think I will be okay with the 300 GIGs? Or am i missing something?

    Thanks.

    For your internet usage that is currently the estimated usage for IPTV only until they possibly turn up the feeds signal in the future, one thing I saw in your post is that you didn't factor VoD bandwidth or your every day usage things like Netflix, Hulu, downloading music that kind of stuff. If you don't use anything else then I would say your fine with your current package, but 300 GB is more than enough, but like Big Dady said you gotta play the ISP like a puppet to get the price down, they will do the best they can to keep you as a customer .

    Well, right now we average aroun 60 gigs a month. That is using Netflix and online gaming.

    So yes 100 gigs wont be enough, unless i start only using for iptv.

    But i think the 300 gb will be good.

    But i will forsure try and see if i can get a better deal out of them

    (Q) How fast a download speed is necessary to get IPTV? How does this translate to "bandwidth"
    (A) The following are preliminary figures that have worked successfully in testing the mag 254 iptv receiver.

    TV Channels:

    SD 750Kbps
    HD 1Mbps

    VoD Movies:

    SD (microHD) 650Kbps
    HD (720p) 1.4Mbps

    We have done some tests with 1.5Mbps internet connection and we were able to watch SD and HD channels without freezing.

    Based on the internet speed required per content as defined above the following is estimated internet consumption (BANDWIDH) per month based on using your IPTV service 8 hours per day.

    Live TV Channels:

    SD = 750Kbps = 329.58 MB / Hour @ 8 Hours per Day = 81.73 GB / Month
    HD = 1 Mbps = 439.43 MB / Hour @ 8 Hours per Day = 108.98 GB / Month.

    VoD Movies:

    MicroHD = 650Kbps = 285.63 MB / Hour @ 8 Hours per Day = 70.83 GB / Month.
    HD = 1.4 Mbps = 615.21 MB / Hour @ 8 Hours per Day = 152.57 GB / Month.

    IPTV is not recommended for those users who don't have an unlimited internet connection.

    now i run 5 tv

    Even with those figures ( a little higher then what i found) 300GB should be enough for me..
    We only have 1 TV running the service, and Netflix in the bedroom from time to time.
