    Mag 544

Has anyone tried MAG 544? If so, what do you think?

They claim it's a good replacement for MAG 254 on Amazon. Is it true?

The 544 model would be similar to the old 254 model, in that they both are Linux OS. Which means they are not Androids and therefore can not utilize 3rd party apps, like a BuzzTV box can for example.

As like the 254, there will be an iptv setup, probably very similar to the 254. So there-fore no need for the Android if just used for iptv services and or mp3 playback.
In other words, you can't add a weather app for instance, or a card game app or even other 3rd party iptv apps. Like the VLC Player. These type of apps are designed for Androids and as mentioned, the 254 nor the 544 are Androids.
There will be a Media Player onboard as well thou, which is good for mp3 playback, your 254 has this as well.
The best thing about the 544 as compared to the 254 is the 4 Gigs of eMMC, while the 254 maybe had 2 GBs.
The RAM is only at 1 or2 GBs, but with that eMMC at 4Gbs, the lower RAM is okay and it doesn't need the storage as it's not an Android, so no extra apps will be loaded/installed anyway, no need for the room.
The DDR is at 4 as well and that's good and it's the LPDDR., which in a basic easy to understand way of explaining is it manages decoding or storage compression, or something like that, so it's a good thing to be upgraded from the old 254 as well.
The 254 maybe have been DDR2 ,maybe.
Bad point about the 544 and the original 254 was the same, and that is the models are not wifi.
You'd need to see the 'w' added in the description for a wifi model.
Example --> 544w3 with the 3 describing the version number.

So if you are okay with it no it being an Android or equipped with WiFi, then sure, the 544 is a replacement.
The 544w would be WiFi capable.
A BuzzTV box is an ANdroid and has many extra options for the User., so I'd say it's a better replacement.... but hey, if the mag is your choice, cool beans

And ensure the service you may use and portal is compatable with the 544's Middleware .

My grand daughter's tricycle has more RAM.
    Get a BuzzedTV B5 or E5.
    You won't regret it.
