Get this one right and you can be called a die hard baseball fan !

Who was the first black man to play in the Major Leagues ?

Jackie was actually the third, or the fourth depending on the school of thought.

I should have said, it's a trick question

William Edward White was the first African-American baseball player in the major leagues. He played only one game back in the earlier 1880's
BUT White tricked the public and baseball. He passed himself off as a white man and it worked.
So for that reason baseball and the fans do not consider White as the first black man in the Major Leagues.

The first African-American to play in the Major Leagues was Moses Fleetwood Walker.
He played for the Toledo Blue Stockings in 1884 and only played one season (42 games total).
Moses' brother Welday, played for the team for a short time that same year.

Jackie Robinson was the first in the modern era.
In 1945, he played for the Negro League for the Kansas City Monarchs
He then played in the minors for the Montreal team and owner Branch Rickie.
April 15, 1947, Jackie made his Major League debut, for Branch Rickie's Brooklyn Dodgers.

The Bronx Bomber Babe Ruth, once hit 3 homeruns in a World Series game.
Back then pitchers would mostly always pitch the entire game, so as the game went on it became just a bit easier to get a hit off the pitcher.

Years later another Bronx Bomber hit 3 HRs in a World Series game.
He did this against 3 separate pitchers and also did this on just 3 consecutive swings of his bat.
No one else in the history of baseball has done that.

He also referred to himself as 'the straw that stirs the drink'

Who was this Bronx Bomber ?

In 1961, Whitey Ford broke Babes pitching record of 22 consecutive hitless innings pitched in World Series play.

It was a bad year for The Babe

Yup the Babe was first a pitcher for the Boston team, but when they saw how good he could smash the ball outta the park, he never pitched again
