    Papillon (2017)

    Papillon

Starring Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek
Charlie Hunnam may be recognised from Sons of Anarchy and Rami Malek plays the role of Freddie Mercury in the new Queen movie just out in theaters.

Based on the autobiographic book by Henri Charriere
Remake of the 1973 Classic starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman

Been reading the 'critics' comments on this movie and most consensus seems to be that you just can't remake a classic, and I do agree with that but if you do the remake as the classic was, and with actors that can get the job done, well it is worth a look
This remake of Papillon is same as the first, in that it is based on the book. So the scenes are the same, more then less. At the beginning they added some stuff of Papillon's prior live before he was imprisoned for murder, which is believed he did not commit. He was a safecracker and thug type from France in around the 1940's
France at that time, shipped prisoners to a Penal Colony in French New Guinea, South America and that's where this all takes place.
Henri Charriere (Papillon) attempted a few escapes from there and did in the end succeed, but not before a total of 7 years solitary confinement and then shipped to Devils Island where he was sentenced to spent the rest of his live.
The story goes that he did finally escape from devils island. In fact he did indeed escape but weather Devils Island it was from, no one can really know. At the time, France was at war with Germany and the French government pretty much forgot about this Penal Colony and the guards and Kkeepers were pretty much on their own and did not keep correct records any longer, so nothing was ever confirmed weather or not... but Henri Charriere's story is true, weather embellished on or not.

The 1973 version with McQueen and Hoffman is a Classic without a doubt, and if you have not seen that then you should.
    This remake is done fantastically.
You may even get a chuckle at how the portraying of the two main characters is been done as like Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman did it.

Full credit to Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek, they did a fantastic job with this.

"The illusion of freedom will continue for as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will take down the scenery, move the tables and chairs out of the way, then they will pull back the curtains and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater."

Are the guillotine scenes more realistic this time?

only one guillotine scene in this one... It was with the prisoner that stabbed the two guards and one guard died.
It was realistic I guess... his head went into the basket
