    no sound on kodi

unable to get any sound on kodi. there is a red speaker on the top right hand side of the screen and it will not go away with remote. Downloaded newer version, krypton 17.6 and the red speaker is not there but there is still no audio. Could not see any thing in the settings. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks Ilan. Followed the steps and still have no sound. Ruled out the cable and remote. Updated from kodi 17.3 to 17.6. Still have no sound but the red speaker in top right corner is not there with the kodi update.

The red speaker meant the volume was all the way down (no speaker volume). If you're using a keyboard, press the +/- key to adjust volume up and down. Click the mute setting on/off if that doesn't help. Try doing this with the Web interface as well.

if you do NOT have a key board, you can start a program using kodi the with your remote click the ok botton it should bring up a menu were you can stop or fast forward the show, what you do is scroll over to the audio emblem click on that and over to the right click on the top one volume and set it to 0...(this is you dont have a keyboard you,you do do what Ian said first

are you using a android box? are you running it through a sound system? if so try another app like u tube or some thing else to see if you have sound.IF you DO NOT and if you are running through a sound system turn every thing off. then turn android box on then your sound system then your tv on.if that dont work then try android box,tv then sound system,(and if you are using a android box and still no sound. After trying that as a last resort i would do a factory reset on the box and reinstall kodi only if you feel comfortable doing a reset.

Factory reset brought back the sound. Also brought back Jarvis 16. Will work on upgrading to krypton later. Appreciate the help, thanks.
