Kodi upgrade

I had to uninstall my Kodi 16.1 before I could install 17.6 which I did. All my personal apps are not showing? Message says Library empty add media source to populate my add ons??????
What am I not doing or are my personal addons gone?

can you run 17.6 on what box

are you talking about your own movies that you have on a hard drive if so you will need to go under video addons then files find your hard drive and re scan your movies

Normally you just install the newer version without uninstalling the old version. If you didn't copy your userdata folder somewhere for safekeeping, I'm afraid you're out of luck and have to start from scratch an reinstall everything and any library that you had. Bummer. It's a good idea to always have a backup if you have stuff you care about. When you reinstall everything, copy the userdata directory to a thumb drive or a network location.

Yea, that is what I figured but I was led astray by posts and Kodi itself that said my personal data and apps would not be lost. Oh well, live and learn.

I suspect those references were to an upgrade, not to an uninstall.

at least with that you can recover
