Just a quick note. I noticed than using FM4tester prevents you from fast forwarding or rewinding. It also seems to take more time for the video to start playing back. What is the the advantage of fm4tester?

It's a decoder made specifically to decode FM4 files. You can read about it by Googling. As to why it behaves as it does is beyond me. It might be part of the decoding and caching process. I have no need for it currently, so I have little familiarity with it.

Go to the SImple Client PVR
default the info for that as well
Clear Cache Purge Packages Clear thumbs
Exit and Reload Kodi

Go to potato tv enter your personal info and select vipers guide option
Select your local time zone
Ensure live tv is working via the addon
Once it is Then click the button to setup pvr
Clear Cache Purge Packages Clear Thumbs
Exit and Reload Kodi
Enable Live Tv

I am not able to get the tv guide to work. channels work in iptv option and vod movies work though.

I dont know where any of this stuff is that you listed and there is no "simple client pvr" settings button located in the potato tv addon. I have set up my actual settings by holding the select button on the potato tv addon and my epg source is set to vipers.

I figured out i needed to start the simple client pvr. I found it by doing this
1. Select SYSTEM
2.Select Add-ons
3.Select My add-ons
5. Select PVR clients
6.Select PVR IPTV Simple Client

my tv guide started up. However, my tv guide is not displaying any shows, only channels. it is blank where the shows should be.
another thing is i noticed the "El Rey network" channel does not play for some reason.

I still dont see a simple client pvr settings option in the potato tv addon.
can someone please help me out?

You will need to configure IPTV Simple client. In the EPG section, choose xmltv only and remote URL, using the following URL:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/acidjesuz/EPG/master/guide.xml

Don't worry about the EPG setting in Potato TV. None of those are working, and this setting overrides it anyway.

now my tv guide works. Thank you. However, every channel I have tried works and play but I cant get the El Rey channel to play. Do you know what I can do to fix it?
