I would like to setup my own iptv system using bell boxes and hdmi.

All on my network and use kodi to watch the shows. Any idea of hardware I should look at?

you might want to read up on creating a 'back-end' server for Kodi. For the best quality, you should use an internal card, I'm not sure if its easy to create good quality streams from an external box unless its a static channel.
