I personally am using a Dlink DWA 160 for over a year and works great. It has both 2.4 and 5.0 GHZ. Why is it better? Most Electronics in the house use 2.4 GHZ which may cause interference with the reception of the router so its better to run on 5.0 where it would be clear of any disconnects or interferences. Your router must support both 2.4 and 5.0 GHZ.

Its so funny, at times my computer would not log on to the internet and I couldn't figure out until I realized that when I turn on my wireless stereo system and noticed that it wouldn't work lol, my stereo runs on 2.4 GHZ.

I received the Mag254 yesterday. It came with a WiFi adapter. It sees my dd-wrt but not dd-wrt50 which is what I have set up. I've not been successful at connecting via Wifi but works fine hard wired.
Also, the Wifi adapter becomes burning hot very quickly when inserted in either the front and rear usb port. Does anyone else have these problems? I'm wondering whether I got a defective box or defective adapter.
Thank you for any advice.

Hi all. I contacted the mag box seller and this is the reply I received. Hope it helps others with the same issues.

"The heating issue that you mentioned with the wifi adapter is quite normal with mag 250 and mag 254. As far as its showing available wifi connections under wireless settings the box and wifi adapter are working normally.

The wifi however may not support all security settings of wifi bands. Make sure your router is broadcasting a 2ghz signal and not 5ghz. Also what kind of encryption you are using to lock your Wifi? WPA, WEP, AES etc? I find that WPA works best. Sometimes the other encryptions do not show."

This wi-fi adapter- Aura HD air Wireless N USB Adapter 150Mbps was included in the price with my Mag. 254.
It has specifications in Ukrainian and Russian on the package so assume it is somehow associated with Mag boxes since they made in Ukraine, so it would be the most compatible with AuraHD MAG250 or other Mag boxes.

Works like a charm. Video on channels played with hardly any freezing was like if I was connected using ethernet cable.

Optimal Shop 300Mbps 300M USB Wireless Adapter WiFi LAN Network Card IEEE 802.11b/g/n Antenna

Maybe, depends on distance & how strong the signal is, there is an android app that helps find a good place to locate the wifi router.
Think power line adapter, cheap and efficient.

Dwa 160 wireless manager is not compatible with windows 8, so there's no way of saving your wireless information on to it. So I would not recommend this unit if running Windows 7 or above.

I have performed a lot of tests and lan is best. I use a alpha r36 router with USB antenna to boost range. You can connect into lan port
too. It uses rtl8187l usb any transceiver with this chip set will work up to 15 ft. do not use a extension cable. get adapter with wire 15 ft. I use outdoor antennas and indoor. I was just in a RV park and the above worked really good. I have a vertical antenna mounted on top of trailer connected to adapter inside. Keep coax short if you go this way. I have 2 r36 routers. One is for home use.

I beg to differ.
I am running a D-LINK DWA-160 Xtreme N Dual Band USB Adapter on my mag 254.
I am running Win 10.
That adapter not only works on my mag but also my computers.
Don't need the wireless manager all you have to do is plug it into a pc, go to router and push the button on the router to find the D-LINK adapter.
Works very well on a 5GHz on my mag 254 anywhere i put it in my house.

The RV park I go to has a weak wifi signal and I get a lot of freezing I will have to try the Alfa AWUS036NH/r36 combo. Which outdoor antenna would you recommend for a RV?

I'm using the Dlink 160 with my Shaw internet but it's freezing a lot - we have two laptops, an ipad and two phones on wifi.

Will an ethernet cable solve this problem?

My Shaw modem is the Touchstone SBG6782

Very frustrating but I'm sure there is a solution

Thanks for any help

If it helps anyone, I bought a cheap generic dual band USB wifi adapter from Ebay and it's working fine with my Mag 254 box. The product description said it used the Ralink RT5572N chipset and supported Linux, so I expect any USB wifi adapters which use that chipset will work fine.

Although that I am still waiting to receive my MAG254, I try to be prepared, and I am trying to collect info for setting up the Wi-Fi adapter (I have one setting aside with no use), and people talking about the OS running their computer, so what that has to do with the Wi-Fi adapter set up if we can directly stick it in the MAG254 USB port, then do the set up from the menu?

Thanks for the help in advance,

ChrisLV

Yes, you set it up from the menu. It's nothing to do with the OS running on your computer, it's that the MAG box runs Linux, so whatever wifi adapter you buy needs to support Linux. It doesn't matter what brand or price, as long as it uses one of the chipsets listed in the link in the first post, then it'll be fine.
