Chase Elliott is fighting to get into the third round of the NASCAR playoffs and he's off to a good start for this week's race at Talladega Superspeedway after he won his fourth pole of the season.
He is currently in 11th in the Cup Series standings trailing Clint Bowyer and Joey Logano, William Byron and Alex Bowman.
Bowman will start right behind him in second while Byron will be third.
Denny Hamlin had some issues with his car and was unable to run a lap. He will start last.
Kyle Busch didn't have a great run either and will start 26th

Blaney spins on entering pit road, and gets penalized for too fast entering... ouch.
However, he gets saved with a caution only a lap later.
Wow... fun end to Stage 1. William Byron edges the field. 10 bonus pts to dara.
Red flag due to weather, before the restart to Stage 2. Race becomes official after Stage 2 completion.
End of race postponed, coverage starts at 2pm Eastern tomorrow. NBCSN for the USA viewers.

Dega and Daytona are like that... You can be in 20th place like "Slick Bill" Byron with a handful of laps left and end up winning a stage. I was worried a little that Tricky Ricky was going to spin in the front of the pack.

Lagano was being pushed by Bowyer and they were erratic at their speeds and just at the point before Lagono 'bumped' Alex, Bowyer and Lagono sprinted up to about 8 miles an hour faster then Alex.
Alex was holding his line, at least fairly well from what I saw.. (he had traffic below him so it would have been suicide to go low at that point) and that bump from Lagono/Bowyer sent him into a spin.
I see Alex is taking the blame for it all, but not all his fault in my view :(

Larson already advanced, so he wasn't too concerned. It actually was Bowyer's push that caused Logano to spin Bowman.

Jimmie Johnson had the higher score because of stage points. Its pretty amazing that the highest points picked was Logano, after all his damage. I didn't think Elliott and Hamlin would do so well, relatively, after their damage.

and looking at that Bowman crash again. It does not look like Bowyer did push Lagono at that time.
Bowyer was up on Lagano's high side when the 22 went into the back of the 88
