At 90 years young, Hershel McGriff will race at Tucson Speedway in May

Hershel McGriff won't just compete in a NASCAR regional race at age 90, he will compete in equipment good enough to win.

McGriff, who turned 90 in December, will drive in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race May 5 at Tucson (Ariz.) Speedway.
0.375-mile asphalt oval.
He will drive for Bill McAnally Racing, one of the top teams on the circuit.

NASCAR, which requires drivers to pass a physical, has no maximum age rule.
The K&N series typically is a mix of young drivers working their way up the NASCAR ranks and veterans of the series.

McGriff holds numerous K&N West records in 266 races on the tour.
His first season on the tour was the first year it existed back in 1954.
He is the oldest winner in the series, with his last win coming at the age of 61.
His most recent start was in 2012 at Sonoma Raceway at 84 years old.

McGriff's best year in the Nascar Cup series (Nascar's elite series) was also in 1954, where he drove in 24 of 37 races with 4 wins.

McGriff has also been on the list of nominees for NASCAR Hall of Fame consideration the last two years.
