Is MX Player still required?

I took a look at the sticky for installing stbemu on a fire stick. I noticed the post was from 2015. Is MX player still required to get things working on a fire stick? I recently watched a youtube video where they didn't install it. What's MX player do anyway? Is there an alternative or updated piece of software I should install?

I have to use it on my Firestick in order to get the Video to play...so i would say YES

No its not required anymore. ijk works pretty well.

MX player is not required. IMHO, the STB Experience is better using a built in player. The internal players seem to fit better with the application.MX Player takes you outside and then you have to return back in.. creating some lag
