I have been using kodi/xbmc for a few years now, and used to use satellite services for about 10 years before that. What always used to bother me about satellite TV was that there was so much choice that by the time you chose what to watch it was half over. Then along came VOD choice in the kodi addons and I could choose what to watch and when. But, as with everything internet related, addons came and went. Because the author of the addon had to release updates. Mashup (and the stalker addon maybe) are prime examples of free apps that the author stopped supporting for their own reasons. Something always comes along though to fill in the gaps, navi-x has come back recently to replace Mashup e.g. Who knows how long that will last though.

So along comes IPTV. I know it isn't new, but it was to me. So I gave it a try. The lack of a guide was the first thing I noticed, but I had been through that in the early days of satellite TV. And found a few ways around that. Not perfect but enough to try things out and see what was on for the channels I wanted to watch. And I also know that, for the most part, is temporary and a guide will be eventually added. I know, from experience, that foreign language programming is huge and one of the main advantages of IPTV. And really think that is the only advantage over tradition TV.

What use is there to 50 movie channels that have movies that start at a specific time. When you can find the same movie online, often in a higher quality, and you can start and stop anytime you please?

What use are the so called cable channel series (mad men, game of thrones) if as soon as they are aired they are available online for streaming.

Then there is sports. My main complaint of Kodi was over the couple of years was the quality of the streams. But with the popularity of streaming that has improved immensely. And even with this free IPTV, I will use my sports addon with Kodi instead.

And who needs that much porn?

So my point is, in a nut shell other than the internationals, what do you see as the advantage of IPTV?

My opinion, but I see a lot of things the same as you do, but you can't "surf" add-ons. The advantage of IPTV is the ability to watch a live stream for a live event, or to watch a first showing of a show before it gets saved for VoD. Those exist in Kodi add-ons as well, but you can't "surf" channels like that with the addons, like you would with a TV, cable or sat box. IPTV (not OTT like Roku) is what most people are used to when they click their remotes on the couch. Add-ons, and OTT services like Roku are like the internet... you browse, vs. channel surf.

In the context of this website, and the services it supports, IPTV will be the potential replacement of IKS, if it goes away if it gets too hard.
