Tokyo (CNN)[Breaking news update at 1:01 p.m. ET]

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck early Saturday morning in Japan's Kyushu island, the same region a magnitude 6.2 quake struck late Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said that tsunami advisories have been issued for parts of the Asian island nation following the latest earthquake.

Thanks for the report, WJ. I see 9 are confirmed dead with after shocks a real possibility. Let's hope those aren't realized. It hit a highly populated area. The major tremors were beneath 1 million people.

I don't know how far away that was. I'll take a look.

FIW...According to this Reuters report, the nuclear power plants are safe...

yea why would they build that there
