'UFC Fight Night 62: Maia vs. LaFlare' lineup finalized with 10 televised bouts
The lineup is set for next month’s UFC Fight Night 62 event, which marks the organization’s return to Brazil.
The event takes place March 21 at Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro. Ten bouts air on FOX Sports following a pair of early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
The card has taken a few hits since it was first announced. A bout between bantamweight contenders Urijah Faber (32-7 MMA, 8-3 UFC) and Raphael Assuncao (23-4 MMA, 7-1 UFC) was scrapped when Assuncao’s ankle injury proved too slow to heal, and welterweights Demian Maia (19-6 MMA, 13-6 UFC) and Ryan LaFlare (11-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) were promoted to the headlining spot in its place.
The main card has a number of other Brazilians. For example, in the co-headliner, Brazilian lightweight Gilbert Burns (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) takes on former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson (20-7 MMA, 3-3 UFC). Additionally, Erick Silva (17-5 MMA, 5-4 UFC) fights in his home country when he meets fellow welterweight Ben Saunders (18-6-2 MMA, 6-3 UFC), who’s fresh off a 2-0 campaign in 2014 that included MMAjunkie’s “Submission of the Year” award.
